• Caged: These hens spend their entire lives indoors in overcrowded wire cages without even enough space to stretch their wings. Unfortunately, most of the eggs farmed in the US still come from caged hens.
  • Cage Free: Cage-free hens do not live inside a wire cage, but this does not mean that they go outside — or even that their conditions are cruelty-free. There is no guarantee of the ability to engage in natural behaviors, and they live their whole lives inside of a building.
  • Free Range Certified Humane®: To meet the Certified Humane® standard for free range, the required minimum amount of outdoor space that farms must provide is 2 square feet per bird.
  • Free Range American Humane Association®: The Happy Egg Co. is the first commercial egg producer in the U.S. to be granted humane certification from American Humane Association (AHA), which means we help set higher standards for our birds. To meet the American Humane Association Certification for Free Range, the required minimum amount of outdoor space that farms must provide is 21 square feet of space per bird. We believe that making the extra effort to improve our hens’ welfare is what makes them happy.
